We totally get it, cotton is a classic. But when it comes to period care, we need a little more than just soft and breathable.

That’s why our gusset, the part closest to your vagina, is made with a performance blend that includes polyester. It’s designed to wick moisture, lock in leaks, and keep you feeling dry and comfortable all day.

Why We Use a Polyester Blend Gusset: 

The gusset is intentionally designed to be:

• Highly absorbent 🧽

• Moisture-wicking 🏜️

• Leak-resistant  💧

While cotton is breathable and comfortable, it doesn’t have the performance capabilities needed to lock in moisture or provide reliable leak protection on its own for period underwear. The performance blend in our gusset helps ensure Saalt Wear works effectively for absorbing and locking in fluid from periods, pee, discharge, and sweat to keep you amazingly dry and super comfy.

At Saalt, we wholeheartedly value the importance of transparency and safety when it comes to any product, but especially items that are as personal as period care. 

Is Polyester Safe? Polyester in and of itself is not an endocrine disruptor. However, some of the chemicals that are used in the production and finishing of polyester are known to be EDCs (PFAS in stain-release finishes for example!). Flame retardants, water-resistant coatings, and even some types of print inks all can fall into this category. We do not apply any of these finishes to any of the polyester fabrics in Saalt Wear, and we test for a range of restricted substances in all of our fabrics.
