What do I do if my disc is stained or has an odor?Updated 2 years ago
Stains
To prevent discoloration and staining, always rinse your disc first with cold water after emptying. Then wash your disc with Saalt Wash or a mild cleanser that is free of oils and fragrances. Though silicone can become discolored over time, staining will not affect the cleanliness or effectiveness of your disc. Rest assured, your Saalt Disc is still good to use.
If staining is bothersome, you can soak your disc in 3% hydrogen peroxide for a short period of time, no more than 8 hours. Please note that soaking your disc in anything can cause damage over time, so we only recommend doing this as needed, no more than once every 3-4 months.
Odors
To prevent odors and less-than-pleasant smells, be sure to wear your disc for no more than 12 hours at a time. Upon removal, always rinse your disc with cold water and then wash with Saalt Wash or a mild cleanser that is free of oils and fragrances.
To remove smells, set your disc out on a sunny windowsill for a few days to allow the odor to bake off. If this doesn't do the trick, you can soak your disc in 3% hydrogen peroxide for a short period of time, no more than 8 hours. Please note that soaking your disc in anything can cause damage over time, so we only recommend doing this as needed, no more than once every 3-4 months. After a peroxide soak, set your disc out on a sunny windowsill for another day or two.
