Using a cup or disc with a tilted cervix / tilted uterus?Updated 6 months ago

A tilted uterus or cervix, also known as a retroverted uterus, is a common anatomical variation where the uterus tilts backward instead of forward. Though it usually doesn't cause any issues, it can influence the placement of your menstrual products and can effect which reusable option may work best for you.

Menstrual Cups:
Menstrual cups, like the Saalt Cup, sit in the vaginal canal, which may work best for someone with a tilted uterus since it does sit lower to catch your flow from your cervix. Cups can be an especially helpful option for someone with a very rear-facing cervix or a severe tilt, since cervix direction doesn't really effect the efficacy of your cup like it can with a disc. However, it can still be helpful to try positioning your cup at different angles and/or heights to see what works best for your unique anatomy.

Menstrual Discs:
Menstrual discs, like the Saalt Disc, sit higher in the vaginal fornix right under the cervix and may be a bit more challenging to use with a tilted cervix because of this. If the cervix is very rear-facing, then it can be difficult to have your disc properly fit around your entire cervix to fully catch your flow. But, it's not a total deal-breaker! Many people with slight tilts find that a disc can still be a comfortable and easy to use product for managing their flow without leaks. It really just depends on what works best for your anatomy.
